Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I am holding an event and need entertainment. Is Insomniac Theatre Company available for hire? Who do I contact?

A: Insomniac Theatre Company would be more than happy to provide entertainment of all  types for any event. We are currently working on three large benefit shows and productions. Whether you are looking for original entertainment geared toward a certain profession or an event that involves an entertainment element, the Insomniacs love working with other groups to create an event to remember.

Q: Do you produce or perform plays in any language other than English?

A: While our main focus is on English language performances, with enough time we’re sure we can accommodate your needs somehow, and if we can’t we will be more than happy to point you in the direction of someone who can.

Q: What are you wearing?

A: Footie Pajamas.

Q: Do you provide event planning services?

A: Depending on the event, we are always looking for new things to try. We are currently working on a Masquerade Ball inspired by the works of Edgar Allen Poe, as well as a benefit performance based around Murder Mysteries and our annual benefit production of Life Imitates Art. We are fortunate enough to be surrounded by talented and creative people who will do what they can to create a unique and memorable event for all.

Q: What venues do you perform at?

A: Given that Insomniac does not yet have a home theater to call its own; we will perform anywhere we can. In the past year and a half we have performed at the Central Florida Community College Auditorium and the Brick City Center for the Arts in Ocala as well as Playhouse 19 in Crystal River and soon will be at the Boomtown Media Center in Dunnellon. We are always on the search for new venues though and are open to any suggestions.

As far as California goes, our heart belongs to the Actors Workout Studio in North Hollywood.

Q: What's your sign?

A: Open 24 hours.

Q: Can actors be hired on an individual basis?

A: Insomniac Theatre Company does not have a base “pool” of actors that we choose from. Auditions are always open to the public and we go by the guideline that everyone must audition (even the President of the company) if they want to be in a show. We do this in an effort to stay away from the “clique” mentality that plagues a lot of smaller theatre organizations.  Our hope is that if John Doe walks in off the street to audition with us he will know that he has the same chance as one of our veteran actors to get a part. We always post audition notices for upcoming performances on this website as well as our Facebook and Myspace accounts.

While we do try to pay actors every show, there are times (such as benefit performances) when we ask that time be donated toward the cause.  We do this in an effort to drive money toward other concerns such as production value, venue and marketing for whatever we are working on at the time. As we were told long ago, “You don’t go into the theatre business to make money”.

Q: What is the answer to life, the universe and everything?

A: 42.

Q: Is it secure for me to buy tickets online? What ticketing agency do you go through?

A: We are currently using TicketDerby.com for our online ticket sales. Their security is always up to date so that you don’t have to worry about your information.  Go to TicketDerby.com for more information on their security practices.

Also, Insomniac Theatre Company will NEVER sell or give your information to another organization. You’ve trusted us with it and we intend to keep that trust.

Q: What is the square root of pi?

A: Boysenberry.

Q: Where do all of your plays come from? Who writes them all? When do you sleep?

A: That depends. We are always on the lookout for both original and known works to produce. We happily take suggestions for known plays and other forms of entertainment and think that a few thousand heads are better than one. Especially if that one head belongs to Chad.

As far as our original material is concerned, the majority of the plays are written by our President Chad Taylor.  We have also produced “The Housewarming” by Cate O’Brian through our production of Death! Live on Stage! and are always looking for new plays and new playwrights in the North Central Florida area who are interested in getting their work produced.

When do we sleep? Well… there’s a reason we call ourselves Insomniacs.

Q: What... is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

A: What do you mean? An African or European swallow? Auuuuuuuugh.

Q: I want to learn how to act/direct/produce/design for theatre! How do I do that?

A: The short answer is to come out and be a part of a theatrical production. The long answer is that Insomniac Theatre Company was started in part as a training tool to help people try something new. If you want to try your hand at any of these disciplines, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Q: What kinds of things do you have coming up?

A: Check out our Shows page for more information about upcoming performances.

We have currently set an ongoing goal of a new production every month. Right now we are trying to balance things out between original and established programs to give our audience something to constantly look forward to. We are also working on putting together a monthly Open Mike Night through the Marion Cultural Alliance as well as several benefit shows and new events of different types throughout the year.
